The Davidoff Signature 2000 at a glance
Davidoff takes its name from Zino Davidoff, a Geneva tobacconist who became one of the most famous names in cigars. In 1970, he sold the business to Oettinger of Basel and stayed on as its ambassador. Davidoff cigars were made in Cuba until the late 1980s. Then, from 1990, production moved to the Dominican Republic, working with Hendrik Kelner’s company, Tabadom.
The Signature 2000 is a corona of about 5 inches by a 43 ring gauge, or roughly 127 mm. It pairs an Ecuador-grown Connecticut-seed wrapper with a Dominican binder and Dominican filler. The Signature line includes cigars once sold as the Davidoff Classic series. Our Dominican cigars guide explains the tobacco behind it.
Construction and draw
Construction is the Signature 2000’s great strength. Expect a smooth, pale, almost silky wrapper with barely visible veins, and a perfectly even roll. The cap is neat and cuts cleanly.
Most reports describe an effortless draw and a razor-straight burn. In addition, the ash tends to be firm and light grey. Few cigars at this size are as consistent.
First third
Expect a soft, creamy start. Most smokers report cream, almond and a little cedar. A light honey or bread sweetness often sits behind it. The strength is mild, so the opening is gentle.
Second third
Next, light coffee and cashew are commonly reported. Meanwhile, a gentle woodiness appears, and a faint white pepper may touch the finish. The texture stays smooth throughout. However, the flavour changes only a little from the first third.
Final third
Finally, the cigar reaches a soft medium. Wood and toasted nuts lead, with a touch of earth. Because the cigar is slim, a fast pace can make it warm. Smoked slowly, it stays clean to the end.
How it compares
The Arturo Fuente Hemingway Short Story is also Dominican and similar in smoking time. Yet its Cameroon wrapper gives it more sweet spice and more personality. The Davidoff is smoother but plainer.
The Montecristo No. 4 is a Cuban cigar of a similar slim size. It offers more cocoa, earth and change through the smoke. By contrast, the Davidoff wins on construction and consistency.
Smoking it in Malaysia
A thin, pale wrapper is sensitive to humidity swings. Keep the Signature 2000 at about 65–69% RH and away from cold air-con vents, which can crack it. Our cigar humidity guide explains how to hold that range.
For pairing, keep drinks gentle. A milky kopi, a teh tarik or a light Champagne-style sparkling wine suits its cream. Strong, peated whisky will drown it. Also, check our guide on where to smoke cigars in Malaysia, since Act 852 limits smoking in many places.
Verdict
The Davidoff Signature 2000 is a model of construction. Its draw, burn and wrapper are close to perfect. Moreover, its creamy, nutty profile is pleasant and easy to enjoy.
Its weaknesses are depth and value. The flavour changes little, and smokers who like spice or strength may find it bland. It is also expensive for a cigar this gentle. It suits newer smokers and anyone who wants a refined, mild corona. As always, any cigar carries real health risks.
